GOVERNMENT LOSSES BATTLE AGAINST UNEMPLOYEMENT
BY KIVUMBI EARNEST BENJAMIN
THE FUTURE PRESIDENT/M.P KAMPALA CENTRAL 2011
2:05PM-2:45PM-FRI-03RD-APR-09 CITY CENTER COMPLEX
While Education institutions such as Universities continue to send graduates in the field, great number of them ends up on streets disappointed, losing confidence in them and regretting the time they’ve spent in schools.
The few available jobs have been reserved and offered to people of the same family and region-denying others chance to exploit the potential inside them and compete in the world of employment and struggle for survival.
If we are to focus on institutions like The Police,Army,Banks,Higher institutions of learning,URA,Public Service to mention but afew-it`s disappointment and a shame!
We are not afraid to confess that people from the western region have mostly dominated them and a few people from other regions if given chance to work in such institutions are of low or almost no positions.
They can’t exceed levels being Askars,secretaries,drivers,cooks,cleaners and when it comes to the army, police and prison-it’s worse because however much one can serve for a long time,he`ll never be promoted unlike our colleagues from those regions.
Who then should be blamed?
One would will come out and say Mr. Future President, their trained and fit for such jobs!
But I’ll challenge him;
You can’t subject some one to a situation where he/she can not even find what to eat and you expect him to send his children in better schools!
What will happen at the end is that the child will lack skills requiring him to work in those offices of good payment.
I blame the Government of Uganda for losing its fight against Unemployment and putting up better working conditions.
This is why all professions have decided to vacate their country, go abroad in search for greener pastures.
Can you imagine people we expected to serve their countries after attaining that doctorate or Law Degree on a peasantry’s taxi payer’s money!
One will automatically cease to be a surgeon in Mulago Hospital where he’s paid 1.5m and go in Libya or Sweden where he’ll earn 5m in a pleasant working atmosphere.
The Nationals of this country are jobless!
Industries and Government parastatals have been sold to foreigners who do not have interest in developing this country-they do not have Uganda at heart!
This is why they keep on repatriating the profits and employ their own people.
What then shall we have gained?
WAY FORWARD
This is what I would like to tell those few individuals who manage the resources on behalf of 32 million citizens;
As long as they do not create employment opportunities, a favorable working atmosphere and an equal distribution of the National cake the do not be surprised if when die, no state burial is given to them and I want to say their children and friends will be rejected in the society.
Time has come and the time is now when the standards of living of Ugandans must be changed by;
Giving the Local investors chance before the foreigners who can’t develop Ugandans.
Putting in place industries to create employment opportunities that will also boom agriculture.
Fair taxes imposed on Ugandans to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
Increasing sallies of civil servants.
Finally promoting and giving chances to individuals of other regions to work in such institutions like the Police, Army and ministerial posts.
